THE IV BOARD OF THE ERASMUS SUSTAINABILITY HUB

The Erasmus Sustainability Hub is an ever growing organization for entrepreneurial students and change agents. Being that the Hub is one of the most impactful communities at Erasmus University, doing a board year at the ESH is definitely an experience you will never forget! As the board, you will lead and coordinate the Hub’s activities and numerous initiatives, initiating the wave of positive change at the EUR campus. You have the freedom to engage in new projects, host exciting and engaging events, and collaborate with students, the university, and other organizations. Becoming a board member is your chance to unleash your creativity, put your knowledge and skills to use in furthering positive change, and will be a wonderful learning experience for you as well. Use this year to learn, develop yourself, try new things and step outside your comfort zone!

As the board, you are responsible empowering a community of passionate students. You are in charge of shaping and executing the organizational strategy and to advance the Hub’s various initiatives and projects. You will also be responsible in maintaining the Hub’s beautiful on-campus office, to provide a welcoming space for Hub members to collaborate. You should be a passionate individual, curious and willing to adapt and learn. Within your board and your committees, you will benefit from the motivation of every one of your peers, and share the ambition to further the message of sustainability. You will be the change-makers of the university and beyond, and share this valuable experience alongside your peers!

YOUR EXPERIENCE AS A BOARD MEMBER

A year as a board member will take hard work and dedication, but in return, you will also gain lots from the experience!

As the board of ESH, this is your opportunity to bring your ideas to reality and share your knowledge and passion for sustainability at a larger scale. Additionally, you will develop valuable personal and organizational skills, such as communication, time management, teamwork, and leadership skills. This experience will become a rich addition to your portfolio of professional experiences.

Joining the Hub, you will surely learn more about sustainability topics from your diverse and inspirational peers. Finally, becoming part of the ESH family, you will be able to meet and engage with like-minded individuals and create friends to last! Your time as part of the ESH Board will truly be a unique year with unique people!



GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  • You are available for a full academic year (August 2021 – July 2022) 
  • You are available for at least 20 hours a week
  • You are a committed individual who actively engages with sustainability

The approximate working hours as a board member is around 20 hours. However, this is just an estimate and a board position may require immense dedication to spend 20+ hours on the job.

CHAIR

As the Chair of ESH, you are the face of the organization. You will be the leader of the board and are responsible for the overall management of the Hub, which includes developing the Hub’s strategy and enlarging its community and network. The Chair of ESH also leads the ever-growing Sustainable Consulting Committee.

Finance & Community Manager

The Finance & Community Manager is the right hand of the Chair, helping out with the general management of the Hub. You will hold responsibilities over financial-, operational- and administrative tasks. Additionally, this year, the community aspect is added to the function in order to boost the community feel of the Hub.

Marketing & Promotion Manager

As the Marketing & Promotion Manager, you are responsible for the external image and visibility of ESH. You and your committee are responsible for the all-around marketing of the organization, curating and maintaining the Hub’s image, and promoting the Hub’s activities and sustainability values within the campus community and beyond.

Fashion Manager

The Fashion Manager of the Hub is the leader and face of the brand; Rethink Apparel (the Hub’s fashion pillar). As such, you are the main person responsible for all fashion-related occurrences in the Hub. You lead the Fashion committee in raising awareness for sustainability in fashion and will supervise and managing various fashion-related events and activities throughout the year.

As the General Events Manager, you are responsible for organising a range of events within the business and social spectrum of the Erasmus Sustainability Hub. This includes all events and activities which are not covered by the main pillars of the Hub and are inspired by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Food & Agriculture Manager

As the Food & Agriculture Manager, you have a passion for sustainable food and agriculture and plant-based cooking. As such, you manage the largest pillar of the Hub, and will work actively with Erasmus Food Lab, Edible EUR, the Beyond Me Challenge and the COEX Research Project.

esd Manager

As the ESD Manager, you are in charge of organising the Erasmus Sustainability Days – the flagship event of the Erasmus Sustainability Hub. You are responsible for creating the strategy for ESD 2022 and managing the ESD committee, ensuring that the Erasmus Sustainability Days cover diverse topics around sustainability and effectively engage the EUR community on a wide scale.

What have the previous boards achieved?

The I Board of ESH successfully merged our past associations (Green EUR and Erasmus Involved) into today’s Erasmus Sustainability Hub and established a community for sustainability initiatives on campus.

The II Board of ESH established the ESH’s presence on campus, built partnerships with EUR, the municipality and other external parties. They hosted the largest Erasmus Sustainability Days in 2020 to date, with over 400 participants and 30+ companies. The team launched and expanded projects such as a sustainable webshop, EcoCoin, the Let’s Talk Trash student podcast , EUR on Ecosia, and Alive, the mindfulness committee. They especially continued growing the Hub’s pillars of fashion, food & agriculture, and waste. 

The III Board of ESH launched even more new and projects, including a Sustainable Consulting Committee, to advise campus and other organizations on how to make their organizational practices and processes more sustainable, the Beyond Me Challenge, a 30-day plant-based challenge, and the Sustainable Rotterdam YouTube Channel in collaboration with VSA Rotterdam. This Board year also successfully hosted the first-ever hybrid-format Erasmus Sustainability Days, which allowed participants to join the conference remotely from any part of the world and ensuring the safety and health of all involved!
